In a similar way, I'd also say that a theme of my creative work this year has been "growth." I pushed myself to test my fiction-writing muscles to the limit and was rewarded. I finished my first piece of long-form fiction, the 25k word novella "Field Station Delta." It was a book that I never planned to write. But it just came out of me. All kinds of things I had stored in my imagination from my teens and twenties came pouring out on the page: Michael Crichton technothrillers, paperback spec-ops novels, The X-Files, Stargate SG-1, and old episodes of "Unsolved Mysteries" and Leonard Nimoy's "In Search Of." I never thought any of it would resurface in my stories.

My plans for next year: Finish revisions on "Delta" and outline the sequel, manage the launch of my children's nonfiction book "The Riddle of the Tongue-Stones", & write enough short fiction for a story collection of some kind.

I'm also trying to let God guide my creativity rather than force my books to fit some kind of mold that I've imposed on myself...

Professionally, artistically, I'm happy with the progress I made over 2024. I tried new mediums, learned a bunch of new skills, and the techniques I already knew hit higher levels of proficiency. I wish I had drawn and painted more, but the gains I made kind of make up for it.

Personally though, 2024 can be lit on fire in a dumpster. 😬 I am hoping 2025 is much kinder and way more peaceful!

Hooray for making progress! And I second that hope for 2025.
